The Department of Economics started its journey in 1968 when the college was established and that time the department taught only the Economics paper included in the curriculum of B.Com Honours and General Course. It started teaching Economics as a General paper in BA/B.Sc Course since 2006 when the college became a multi-faculty institution. The department introduced Honours in Economics in 2019. The department prepares students to gain analytical skills as well as theoretical knowledge to explain and analyze real life phenomena happening in the economy. The main objective of the department of Economics is to develop creative, critical, analytical and research aptitudes among the students along with profound social commitment.
This Department started its journey with the mission of preparing students to become aware, understand and analyze different economic events happening around the world. The department also makes sincere effort to provide teaching in economics based on theoretical construct and empirical findings. It tries to ensure holistic development of the students so that they become successful in their professional field as well as become a socially responsible citizen.
